Lovely Poppies

A field with wonderful poppies

Every year, around June, I photograph a wonderful field that is only 100 meters away from me. For the first time this year there was a sea of poppies to be seen there. Even if the internet is flooded with pictures of poppy flowers – here are my 2c.

It’s all about love

The poppy got its german name “Klatschmohn” from an old game: the leaves of the flowers were carefully folded into a small, air-filled balloon and placed on the palm of the hand. If you clapped the flower with your other hand, the air escaped with a loud bang (“Klatschen” – clap). This bang served as a love oracle – the louder the poppy pop, the greater the expected love of the loved one.
